Welcome Address: Network of Peace and Civic Education Teachers Meeting on the presentation of the Draft Peace Education Manual
Dear Friends,
It is an honour to welcome you again as we gather to reflect on our journey to Protect our Future. It has been a journey of inspiration. It has been filled with thorns and joy, however, we do believe that in the end we will be glad that the little seed we are planting today will germinate and become a huge tree. I thank you for your commitment to the cause. We learn everyday as we navigate the task of setting up peace clubs in schools. The settings are different and the orientation also different, however, the problem is the same. We have to work together learning from each other to assist our young ones to be able to live peacefully with one another and to be good citizens of our country.
We at the Centre for Human Development and Social Transformation (CHDST) are working around the clock to support your efforts and commitments. We believe that by next year, when we begin the next phase of the project, we will be in a better position to financially support the teachers and the schools that have started peace clubs.
Today, we are happy to give you a draft copy of the manual. We will like you to start using the manual in your peace club. Please do note that this is a draft and a final version will be published next year. We are giving this version to be used for peace club purposes only. It is not for mass production yet. The purpose of this version is to receive a feedback from you. From the feedback we will publish a manual we will distribute to the schools, members of peace clubs, libraries and the public. We will like you to tell us:
- What do you like about the manual
- What do you not like in the manual?
- What will you like to be include in the manual
- What will you like to be removed from the manual?
- Was the manual easy to use?
- Was the student able to use the manual?
- Were the role plays relevant to the theme?
- Did the role play have any impact on the students?
- Will you like the structure to be changed?
- Can you propose a likely structure?
We will be happy to get these feedbacks from you. We will be visiting you schools and we do implore you to invite us to visit. We will be very happy to come and meet your peace club members and the school authority. Thank you to those schools that have invited us.
Thank you again for coming to the meeting and together we shall make our community better! We thank and express gratitude to members of the steering committee for the good work. God bless you
In peace and Love,
Imoh Colins
