VISION NIGERIA BY KONRAD-ADENAUER-STIFTUNG
IN COLLARBORATION WITH
CENTRE FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT & SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION (CHDST)
OBJECTIVE
This project has as its primary goal to build a democratic culture among the people of Nigeria. It is believed that when citizens are given the opportunities to appreciate and discuss issues that affect them (civic education / responsibilities) they will be a powerful voice in sustaining democratic values and a culture of peace.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
(a) Have a one hour interactive radio programme to discuss issues of civic education, human rights democracy and good governance.
(b) Provide a forum for discussion of topical issues in the country that has relevance to protecting our future.
(c) Invite experts to disccuss and inform the citizens on issues of commin interest that relates to civic education, human rights democracy and good governance.
(d) Present a forum for citizens to air their views on issues about civic education, human rights democracy and good governance.
METHODOLOGY
This is a one hour radio programme on civic education, human rights democracy and good governance. Experts, resources persons, ordinary citizens and youths are invited to participate in an interactive manner. The participants are selected to reflect a balance in view and to accommodate various interest group. However, this will only be necessary based on the topic to be dicussed. The project strive not to compromise quality based on representation, however, representation is ensured by the interactive nature of the programme.
The programme is interactive as well as being conversational in nature. The method facilitate conversation between the studio audience and the general public. The programme is presented and researched by CHDST & moderator. The programme involve an exchange between a presenter / moderator and a source of information – This sources of information will vary from time to time. There is some flexibility in the structure.
The themes for the discussion will be topical issues; however, emphasis will be placed on civic education, human rights democracy and good governance. In this context the political development in Nigeria, nationalism and national values, rights and obligations of the citizens, culture of peace, elections, and good governance will feature prominently
It is strongly believed that this radio programme will have the desired effect in our communities. This will be achieved by the citizens knowing their responsibilities. It will create a forum for the citizens to learn, ask questions and express their views on how they are being governed. This will ehance and enthroned an enduring democracy in the country. It will help prevent the evils of bad rule and its inherent evils, which we are seeing in this present disposition: corruption, bribery, looting of treasury, violence etc.
